Youth Section Training Session

The Club holds regular cycling training sessions throughout the year. These are run by British Cycling qualified coaches who have been DBS checked to enhanced level.

The sessions are designed to develop cycling skills for racing and we encourage our youth riders to take part in races whenever possible. Of course, these skills will be useful for riding on the road in the future whether commuting or riding for leisure.

Our most successful cyclists attend sessions both in the summer and winter whatever the weather.  We believe this is important for both developing skills and maintaining fitness. Our usual sessions are:

Date Description
Mondays: April – September Mountain Biking at Small Gains Lane
Mondays: November – March Rollers at URC Hall Ashwell
Wednesdays: September – March Cyclo-Cross at Baldock (12+)
Thursdays: April – September Grass Track at our Small Gains Lane site
Saturdays: September – March Cyclo-Cross at Smallgains
January – December Ad hoc Road sessions at RAF Henlow and Hard Track Sessions as part of the Eastern Track School

We welcome all ages and abilities from 7-16 and seek to make sessions fun as well as a serious learning experience. Please be aware that cycle sport is regionally based and taking part in both racing and training sessions can involve a considerable amount of travelling.

The youth section is run by volunteers. We have many roles to cover including coaching, taking registers / money, helping organise CC Ashwell races, bike mechanics and maintaining our grass track and field. Please let us know if you can help out. At some point we will probably ask you directly anyway!

We have our own seven-acre grass track facility within the village. This gives us flexibility on times and number of sessions, enabling us to develop different groups at their own speed and availability. Please keep an eye on the CCA forum for all developments and announcements.

To take part in our training sessions, your child will need to be a member of CC Ashwell, have a completed parental consent form, a road worthy bike (the type depending on the session), a helmet and suitable clothing for the weather. In addition, they should bring a healthy snack and drink.

In addition we recommend all members join British Cycling which will provide your child with insurance cover should they accidentally damage someone else’s property and a racing licence so they can take part in cycle sport. All club members can get an introductory membership discount to British Cycling.

We currently  recruiting new members  so please get in touch , please email youth@ccashwell.com.

Pop along, try us out, see for yourself and get to speak to the parents about how CC Ashwell is helping their kids have fun, enjoy cycling and exercise.
