Time Trials

From May to the end of August 2011, the club runs its own 10-mile Time Trial on Wednesday evenings, first rider starting at 7pm [note: set up is from about 6.30pm and it's all over by around 8pm].

The course starts in Ashwell [meet at the concreted area by the roadside on Northfield Road near the Bluegates Farm turning], goes through Guilden Morden, turns left on to Potton Road, left at the crossroads [take care!] near Wrestlingworth, along Eyeworth Road and then back into Ashwell along Northfield Road.

The course is officially recognised by the CTT as course code S1/10. The official course record was set on 11 August 2010 by former CC Ashwell member Ashley Cox, riding for British Elite team Corley Cycles, with a time of 21:03.

Click here to see a short video of Anna riding the course. Thanks Anna and Mark.

The 'Club 10s' are a great way of seeing how your form is improving through the season. The beauty of time trials are that they are not just about competing against other rather they are about competing against your own personal best. Time Trials always hurt, and if they don't you're probably taking it too easy, but there is nothing like seeing your times improving beyond what you may ever have thought possible after your first lung bursting attempt.

Anyone in a CTT affiliated club can enter: which you are if a CC Ashwell member. No minimum standard or licence needed, it's just for 'fun'. There is a Club trophy for the most improved rider throughout the season awarded at the Club annual dinner.

Assistance is always most welcome
Help is always gratefully received in marshalling and making the evening a success. Contact Tim Duckett if you want to help out in any way. Or, add your name to the online list here.

Results
To help assess your improvement throughout the season, the results page of this website shows all the riders and times after each session.

Inter-club Time Trial Series 2011
For the 2011 season, we have signed up with the Icknield Road Club, Beds Road CC and Hitchin Nomads CC to have an Inter-club TT series. These are SPOCO type events (sporting courses) and so tend to be on rolling country lane courses rather than dual carriage ways. These are friendly, informal events of between 10 and 30 miles and are suitable for all, youth, vets, fast and slow. There are prizes for individual efforts and an overall Series club winner. All CC Ashwell members are very welcome.

Dates and locations
Sunday 10th April 8.00am / 10 miles IRC Clophill Village Hall (IRC)
Sunday 29th May 8.00am / 30 miles Hitchin Nomads Cardington (Beds Road Clubhouse) (BRCC)
Sunday 26th June 8.00am / 15 miles Beds Road Cardington (Beds Road Clubhouse) (BRCC)
Sunday 10th July 8.00am / 25 miles CC Ashwell [Guilden Morden Village Hall]
Sunday 9th October 10.30am / Hillclimb Hitchin Nomads Streatley (Hitchin Nomads CC)

It is possible to just turn up, sign on and ride - but you will be a PTT (private time triallist) and won't be eligable for prizes. The best thing to do is to go to Beds Road CC website SPOCO online booking form, select your event from the drop down menu and fill in your details. That way the organisers can better plan the event. It might take 2 weeks to register beforehand.

The 25 miles CC Ashwell course - CTT course code F14/12. Note: 2 laps, anticlockwise, take caution going on to the A1198, and note the different start and finish points - click map for details;
